Teens will "Make Me" at new Stillwater Public Library series
(STILLWATER, OKLA. / Sept. 25, 2014) –– Area teens are being challenged to use their ingenuity and street smarts at the Stillwater Public Library’s newest young adult program. “Make Me” is a creative workshop series for teens in grades 6-12. Each session will focus on a specific theme or item and participants will have to think up, design and build something fabulous with the materials provided.
“This program will be a fun way to inspire teens who are interested in crafts, learning new skills and tinkering with technology,” said Emily States, teen librarian. “I can’t wait to hang-out and see everything that gets made.”
Each event will start off with the introduction of that program’s inspiration material. The library will provide the base material for each session along with random items to help customize each creation. Instructions for suggested projects will also be available.
The first workshop on October 19 will be based around used books. One of the suggested projects will involve creating a record player out of a book, a rivet, and a needle.
On November 9, the focus will be on repurposing t-shirts. Projects will include sewing a pillow and creating no-sew tote bags and scarves.
On December 14, teens will break down old computer parts to make new objects. Some possible projects include making a roll-up keyboard and designing bracelets or necklaces.
“The December program will be a great time to make some one-of-a-kind holiday gifts for your family and friends,” said States.
The workshops will be held on Sunday afternoons from 2-4 p.m.
Due to the hands-on nature of the workshops space is limited to 20 teens and registration is required. To sign-up, visit the library’s webpage at http://library.stillwater.org, email email@example.com, call the help desk at (405) 372-3633 x8106 or register in person at the Help Desk.
