Teen Summer Reading Program

Registration will open on May 16, 2016.

The Teen Summer Reading Program includes weekly events and the opportunity to earn prizes for reading.  Students in grades 6-12 are eligible to participate.

Teens or their parents may register for the program at the Help Desk or online.  Everyone will receive a bag with a suggested reading list, a brochure of events, and tracking sheets to record their reading.

Reading Tracking Sheets

Each registration packet will contain several tracking sheets. Teens will mark every time they have read 30 minutes. They can read anything (blogs, magazines, comics, books, etc.).  Once five hours are read return the sheet to the Help Desk for one entry in the grand prize drawing plus one of the following prizes (while supplies last):

  • Food coupons 
  • Rubik's cube
  • $5 off library fines
  • Extra entry in the grand prize drawing
Weekly Programs

Each Wednesday in June and July from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., the library holds a program just for young adults. Programs include everything from concerts and cool science presentations to trendy craft projects and movies.

Grand Prize and Weekly Drawings

At each weekly program names will be drawn for small prizes like books, buttons and gift certificatesAt the summer finale, all submitted tracking sheets and "extra" entries will be compiled and winners for the grand prize will be drawn.  This summer the grand prize winner will choose between one of four similarly priced items: an Xbox One, Playstation 4, Laptop, or Daddy O's Gift Certificate (provided by the Friends of the Library).

Top 30 Readers

This summer we are rewarding the teens that read the most!  The top thirty readers will be invited to attend after hours laser tag at the library!
