Stillwater Public Library's giant used book sale returns Sept. 25-28
(STILLWATER, OKLA. / Sept.12, 2014) –– Stillwater Public Friends of the Library is holding its next used book sale on Sept. 25-28. Shoppers can choose from over 20,000 fiction, nonfiction, children’s and young adult titles priced at .25 to $1.
“This is one of the biggest book sales most people will see. If we laid everything out in a straight line, it would stretch nearly four miles,” said Lynda Reynolds, library director. “Few people can leave without finding something they really need or a book they’ve been seeking for years.”
The book sale will be held on the second floor of the Stillwater Public Library’s meeting room building. Books will be priced at $1 for hardbacks, 50 cents for paperbacks, and 25 cents for children’s books. Books are sorted into categories such as Sci Fi, Mysteries, Cookbooks, Local History, Education & Curriculum and Older & Rare items for easier browsing.
The sale begins with a "Members Only Preview" on Thursday, Sept. 25, from 5 to 8 p.m. Friends of the Library membership is open to everyone and will be available at the door or during business hours at the Stillwater Public Library. Membership is $10 per year. Buyers at the preview sale are limited to 100 books, including 50 children’s books.
The sale continues on Friday, Sept. 26, when it opens to the general public. Hours for the public sale are Friday noon to 8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The Sunday, Sept. 28 bag sale has new hours this year. The sale will begin at 1:30 p.m. and stay open until 4 p.m. Shoppers can fill an entire bag of books of the buyer’s choosing for just $1. Bags will be provided and the number of bags purchased is not limited.
All proceeds from the sale benefit the Library.
“The semi-annual book sale profits fund nearly all the library’s programming,” said Reynolds. “Our summer reading programs, book clubs and monthly programs are made possible because the community comes out and shops at this sale.”
Other library projects recently supported by the booksale proceeds include a substantial purchase of eBooks, staff training and the enhancement of out of date book collections.
The Friends of the Library work all year collecting and sorting gently used books which largely come from public donations. Donation bins are located in each lobby of the library where books, DVDs, CDs, and magazines are accepted year round. Tax receipts are available.
Library hours are Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Stillwater Public Library is located at 1107 S. Duck St. (the corner of Duck and 12th Ave.). Sponsored by Stillwater Public Library, Friends of the Library and KOSU.
