Stillwater celebrates National Novel Writing Month
(STILLWATER, OK / October 30, 2014) –– Each November, writers sharpen their pencils, dust off their keyboards, flex their fingers and prepare to write 50,000 words in 30 days to celebrate National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). This year, the local NaNoWriMo chapter and the Stillwater Public Library are teaming up to host a series of “write-ins” to help community members meet their 50,000 word goal.
Rachel Thompson, Stillwater’s NaNoWriMo Municipal Liaison, is coordinating the events.
“We are excited to be holding write-ins at the library,” said Thompson. “The write-ins give participants a place to go right in their neighborhood where they can get to know fellow writers and while penning their NaNoWriMo masterpieces!”
The writing events will take place in Room 119 of the library on Wednesday, Nov. 12, Thursday, Nov. 20 and Tuesday, Nov. 25. The sessions will last from 5:30-8:30 p.m.
“The library is a second home for many writers,” said Lynda Reynolds, library director. “NaNoWriMo is another way we can give our local writers our support.”
Writers of all ages are invited to the sessions.
“Everyone has a story to tell,” said Thompson. “We hope these events will empower anyone who has ever dreamed of writing to get started.”
NaNoWriMo is celebrating its 16th year. The organization expects 400,000 people from 616 affiliated chapters across six continents to participate.
Registration is not necessary to participate in the Stillwater Public Library write-ins. Participants should bring their laptops fully charged, though a limited number of electrical outlets will be available.
