Navigate to Stillwater Public Library Nov. 19 for mapcrafting program
(STILLWATER, OK / Nov. 5, 2014) –– With GPS and smartphone navigation, the old worn out road maps trapped inside the car glove compartment are not getting much use. On Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2014 at 7:00 p.m., join fellow crafters at the Stillwater Public Library for “Are You Gonna Go My Way?” an upcycling program to turn these old maps into new treasures.
“The library archives all of the local maps we receive, but we have a huge surplus of old and unused highway maps from across the globe,” said librarian Andrea Duncan. “This workshop will let the library reuse these maps, while also letting participants get a jump on making holiday gifts.”
According to Duncan, the maps can be repurposed into anything from jewelry, baskets and home décor to one of a kind creations like framed prints marked with the significant locations of a person’s life.
Designs for different gifts will be provided at the workshop and will be available to take home. The library will provide plenty of maps for participants to create several objects each, but anyone with a map holding sentimental meaning should feel free to bring it to the program.
Registration for the free program is required and limited to adults 18 and older. To sign-up, call the library Help Desk at 405-372-3633 x8106 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Stillwater Public Library is located at 1107 S. Duck St. (the corner of Duck and 12th Ave.)
