Manga drawing workshop for all ages April 25 at Stillwater Public Library
(STILLWATER, OKLA. / April 8, 2015) –– Mad about manga? Love to draw? The Stillwater Public Library will host a Manga Drawing Workshop Saturday, April 25, at 2:00 p.m. in Room 119. The session will be taught by Don Rosencrans, a comic book artist, writer and production manager at Literati Press in Edmond.
“Manga is a very stylized form of drawing based on Japanese comic book art,” said Emily States, teen librarian. “We have many library users who are fascinated with this art form, and Don is one of the best artists in the state.”
The first hour of the class, Rosencrans will demonstrate tips and tricks for drawing manga style. Paper and drawing utensils will be provided, but attendees are welcome to bring their own materials.
In the second hour, participants can sign up for ten-minute portfolio reviews. Rosencrans will make assessments and provide feedback and suggestions on each participant’s work. Anyone signing up for an individual review should bring their artwork and sketchbooks.
This introductory class is for people of all ages who love to draw, have fun and share a passion for manga and anime.
“This is a great opportunity for kids, teens and adults with similar interests to connect,” says States. “It is also a good chance for adults to join in on the fun our teens have been having.”
The library hosts a monthly Anime Club program the second Friday of the month, which is limited to teens. The club was meeting at the Community Center, but is now moving back to the library. The next meeting will take place May 8 at 6:30 p.m.
The Manga Drawing Workshop is free. Drawings will be held for Manga art books and supplies. Japanese snacks will be provided.
Library hours are Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Stillwater Public Library is located at 1107 S. Duck St. (the corner of Duck and 12th Ave.)
