'Making the Most of Retirement' returns at Stillwater Public Library after summer break

(STILLWATER, OKLA. / Aug. 19, 2014) –– This fall, the OSU Emeriti Association and the Stillwater Public Library will once again offer monthly programs benefitting retired community members. “Making the Most of Retirement” returns Sept. 17 with a session about a new retirement community coming to Stillwater.

“The Ranch is a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) that offers the entire continuum of care including independent and assisted living as well as memory and nursing care,” said Joe Haney, Vice President of Advancement at Epworth at the Ranch.

According to Haney, getting facts about all of a community’s retirement living options is essential.

“Retirement often lasts twenty of more years and is typically accompanied by health challenges. While most seniors would prefer to live out their days at home, many times that is not an option. Many seniors prefer a ‘home for life’ such as a CCRC so as not to burden children for their health care or be forced to move because of failing health.”

Last year, “Making the Most of Retirement” featured presentations from Primrose Retirement Community and the Oakcreek Cohousing Community.

Haney, a former member of Stillwater’s City Council, spent 10 years with the Oklahoma State University Foundation as Associate Vice President of Development for the Spears School of Business.  He has been active as President of the Chamber of Commerce, Stillwater Main Street and Board of Education.

Haney has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Oklahoma State University. He and his wife, Pam, have three married children and six grandchildren.

“Making the Most of Retirement” is free and open to all retirees.  The group meets at 1:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month at the Stillwater Public Library. Upcoming programs include “Grief Recovery” on Oct. 15, “Low-Impact Exercising for Seniors” on Nov. 19 and “Preparing to Use the AARP Tax Service” on Dec. 17.
