Making the Most of Retirement addresses insurance on Oct. 19

(STILLWATER, OKLA. / Oct. 10, 2016) –– On Wednesday, Oct. 19, at 1:30 p.m., Making the Most of Retirement presents “Protecting You and Yours by Accessing and Managing Risk in Your Senior Years” with Todd Thornton, branch manager of the Stillwater AAA office. Making the Most of Retirement is a monthly program from the OSU Emeriti Association held at the Stillwater Public Library.

During the discussion, Thornton will explain insurance terminology and help attendees gain an understanding of what different policies mean.

“Many people think they are well insured or that they have the insurance they need,” said Thornton. “But once we understand what these policies are actually covering, they may want to return to their agent and make some changes.”

Thornton will also discuss asset management and other topics that may be of special interest to retirees.

“An interesting insurance issue that is now fairly common in retirement is insuring teenagers,” said Thornton. “With so many grandparents now raising their grandchildren, it is time to revisit how teen drivers should be covered, because insurance has changed a lot since retirees insured their own children.”

Thornton worked in the farming and ranching, construction, and real estate world before entering the insurance field. He joined AAA Oklahoma when it opened its Stillwater office in 2011.

“Making the Most of Retirement” meets the third Wednesday of each month. All local retirees are invited to attend the free programs.  For more information, visit or contact the library at 405-372-3633 x106 or
