Local advisor discusses Long-Term Care Insurance at the Stillwater Public Library June 17

(STILLWATER, OKLA. / June 5, 2015) –– On Wednesday, June 17, at 1:30 p.m., financial planner Louise Schroeder will present “Understanding Long-Term Care Insurance.” The class is part of “Making the Most of Retirement,” the OSU Emeriti Association’s monthly retirement series which meets at Stillwater Public Library.

“Long-term care is a topic that retirees sometimes skip because of concerns over expense,” said Schroeder. “But it is crucial that retirees consider what will happen if a health issue arises where they may need long-term assistance with everything from bathing and eating to home maintenance.”

Schroeder will discuss what long-term health insurance is, which parts of the policy are most important, and how to decide whether it is needed.

“The most important part of the decision is considering ahead of time all of the different reasons you may need this type of insurance,” said Schroeder. “You also have to consider things like where you want to be when receiving care, who you want to provide the care and what types of services you’ll need.”

Schroeder, a certified financial planner and a part of the Garrett Planning Network, has been in private practice since leaving OSU in 1998, where she served as the Assistant Director of Planned Giving for the OSU Foundation.

Schroeder is particularly interested in serving retirees and has worked with many organizations throughout the area to make retirement more beneficial.  She served on Stillwater’s Certified Retirement Community committee, which promotes Stillwater as an attractive retirement community. Schroeder also completed the Oklahoma Aging Advocacy Leadership Academy, sponsored by the Area Agencies on Aging and the Oklahoma Department of Human Services, Aging Division.

“Making the Most of Retirement” is free and open to all retirees. The program will take a summer break during July and August, and then resume monthly meetings beginning in Sept.
