1940 Census

Visit the National Archives to browse the 1940 Census records. The records are browseable by enumeration districts. The library's databases, Heritage Quest, is not yet searchable by name. Ancestry is searchable by name for Delaware, District of Columbia, and Nevada.

Stillwater Public Library's Genealogy Collection

  • Over 1500 books, including books compiled and published by the Payne County Genealogy Society
  • Oklahoma Census from 1890 to 1930 on microfilm and CD-ROMs
  • Microfilm of most of Payne County newspapers from 1890 to present
  • Genealogy quarterlies and magazines
  • family histories and family charts
  • Genealogy materials are for use in the library only.

    Genealogy Room

  • Located in the southeast corner of the library
  • 2 microfilm readers -one for printing items and one for emailing or saving external storage media
  • Internet computer reserved for genealogy research.

    Research Assistance

  • Volunteers available on Thursdays from 12:00-4:00 pm.
  • Reference staff available for ready reference during Stillwater Public Library's regular hours.
  • For obituary search by the library staff, refer to the librarys Reference Research Policy.
  • Payne County Genealogical Society meets on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 7:00 pm at Stillwater Public Library.
