25,000 used books on sale at Stillwater Public Library April 24-27
(STILLWATER, OKLA./April 10, 2014) — The Friends of the Stillwater Public Library will host its annual Spring Used Book sale Thursday, April 24 through Sunday, April 27. Over 25,000 hardbacks, paperbacks, children’s books, DVDs and audios will be available for purchase.
“This spring, the Friends officially have no more room in their sorting area and are having to branch out to other storage areas,” said library director Lynda Reynolds. “There are so many books that there is no excuse to not be able to find a good one, or ten or twenty.”
The sale will be held on the second floor of the Stillwater Public Library’s meeting room building. Books will be priced at $1 for hardbacks, 50 cents for paperbacks, and 25 cents for children’s books.
“I think because of the number of children now using ereaders, we are seeing a substantial uptick in the number and quality of children’s items,” said Reynolds. “This sale will be a good opportunity for parents to replenish their children’s collections.”
The sale begins with a "Members Only Preview" on Thursday, April 24, from 5 to 8 p.m. Friends of the Library membership is open to everyone and will be available at the door or during business hours at the Stillwater Public Library. Membership is $10 per year or lifelong memberships may be purchased for $100. Buyers at the preview sale are limited to 100 books, including 50 children’s books.
The sale continues on Friday, April 25, when it opens to the general public. Hours for the public sale are Friday noon to 8 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
On Sunday, April 27, the Friends host a bag sale where an entire bag of books of the buyer’s choosing is available for $1. The number of bags purchased is not limited. The bag sale runs from 1 to 3 p.m.
“Proceeds from the book sale pay for almost all of our children’s and teens’ summer programming,” Reynolds said. “It also gives us year round programs and learning opportunities for all ages, new equipment and, of course, updated books.”
The Friends of the Library work all year collecting and sorting gently used books which come from public donations and books that have been removed from the library collection. Donation bins are located in each lobby of the library where books, DVDs, CDs, and magazines are accepted year round. Tax receipts are available.
Library hours are Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Stillwater Public Library is located at 1107 S. Duck St.(the corner of Duck and 12th Ave.). The sale is co-sponsored by KOSU.
