One Book, One Community is a citywide reading event sponsored by the Stillwater Public Library, the OSU Library, other local community organizations and state and national Arts agencies.

Young Adult Art Competition announced

Area students in grades 6-12 are invited to submit a visual arts entry for exhibition and judging as part of the "One Book, One Community: Stillwater Reads Woody Guthrie" community-wide reading of the book "Bound for Glory."  While known primarily as the author of the popular song "This Land is Your Land," Woody Guthrie was also an accomplished artist.  Students are encouraged to research Guthrie for inspiration.

Students will be divided into age-group categories: Middle School, Junior High, and High School.  The competition will be judged by three local artists. Winners will receive a cash award prize for first ($35), second ($25) and third ($15) place for each age category. There will also be a "People's Choice" award voted on by the community. Winning students will be invited to attend an award reception on Sunday April 7, 2013, at 2pm at the Sheerar Museum. The show will remain on exhibit (with winners noted) through Sunday April 14. Artwork may be picked up during regular museum hours of operation April 16-21. Any artwork not picked up will be disposed.

The entry must be an original print, drawing, painting, collage, photographic collage, metal etching or punch work, fiber work, or computer-generated artwork that relates to the theme: Woody Guthrie and/or the book chosen for the event. Whether an entry uses a variety of techniques or a simple approach, it will be judged primarily on how well the student uses his or her artistic vision to portray the theme.

The Sheerar Museum of Stillwater History (702 S. Duncan) will accept submissions from March 1-6, 2013, during regular hours of operation (Tuesday-Friday 11 am-5 pm; Sat & Sun 1-4 pm; closed Mondays). Required information must be attached to the back of the submission. Any entry submitted without the proper paperwork attached will be automatically disqualified from consideration. For more information, contact Ammie Bryant at the Sheerar Museum 377-0359.  Download entry form and rules.
